Forest Survey of India -State of Forest Report 2003

The Satellite Imagery shows increase in Forest Cover of the State by 2128 Sq.Km.

The Forest cover in the country is 678,333 Km² and constitutes 20.63% of its geographical area. Of this, dense forest constitutes 390,564 Km²(11.88%)and open forest 287,769(8.75%)

 Madhya Pradesh with 76429 Km² of forest cover has the maximum forest cover amongst all states/ UTs, followed by A.P(68,019 sq. km) and Chattishgarh (55,998 sq km)
